Never been so pleasantly surprised by a guitar

I’ve
been playing since 1966, professionally since 1973, so I’ve owned (and
still own) a ton of guitars, but I’d never bought an SG. I was a huge
Todd Rundgren fan as a teenager, and in the early 70s, he played “The
Fool,” a psychedelic-painted SG that Eric Clapton had used in Cream. I’d
always thought it would be fun to have one like that, but I didn’t want
to spend the money a real SG costs and then destroy the resale value by
painting it myself. When I saw this white Leo Jaymz SG copy, I thought
it would be a fun project, so cheap that even if it sucked as a guitar, I
could hang it on the wall after I painted it. But when I took it out of
the box, I was blown away by the neck and feel of the instrument; I
couldn’t stop playing it. I have guitars that literally cost 10 times as
much as this one that aren’t as much fun to play. yes, there are some
cut corners, just like with any inexpensive Chinese guitar. I replaced
the pots, wiring and pickups, and put on a Tusq nut and locking tuners.
But even with all that, I’ve spent around $300 on what is now one of my
top two or three favorite guitars. I enjoy inexpensive, great
bang-for-the-buck guitars; I’ve got another Leo Jaymz and three Harley
Bentons, but this guitar is on a different level. If my house caught on
fire, I’d grab it before my Les Paul, my PRS or my Kiesel. It’s just
that cool.
